Pune already faces significant traffic congestion. According to TomTom's 2025 Traffic Index, Pune had an average congestion level of 71.1%, with drivers losing approximately 152 hours during rush hour over the year.

When vehicles are forced to move slowly, stop repeatedly or remain stuck in traffic, journeys take longer and vehicle operating costs can increase. The actual fuel loss from any individual procession depends on the number of vehicles, duration and traffic conditions.
